  • Height: Balloon rises up to 5 meters (about 16 feet) above your position.
  • Visibility: Signals clearly for up to 3 days depending on conditions.
  • Water-Ready Tether: 5 meter high-tech bridle designed for near-waterline signaling.
  • Light + Reflectors: Integrated light source and reflective elements for low-light visibility.
  • Radar-Assist Coating: Balloon coating is designed to positively influence radar signature in many situations.

The AirMarker R.Four is a compact visual rescue signal built for water use. In an emergency, it deploys a bright orange balloon that rises up to 5 meters above the waterline, giving searchers a clear visual reference to your exact location.

Unlike handheld signals that can disappear between waves or get lost in spray, rain, fog, or darkness, the R.Four lifts your distress marker into open air. That extra height makes it easier for nearby boats, aircraft, and shoreline searchers to spot you quickly.

The R.Four includes a rugged ABS shell, three helium cylinders, a high-performance synthetic connecting line, and a special balloon with a 4-point safety mechanism, reflectors, and an integrated light source. The LED requires a one-time activation using the on/off switch, then it switches on automatically at 10 Lx and off at 20 Lx (light duration about 22 hours).

A carabiner with an elastic band allows the AirMarker R.Four to be secured to equipment, a pylon, railing, a life jacket, a harness, a surfboard, an inflatable boat, or a canoe. The R.Four is supplied in a waterproof AirMarker Dry Bag.

The balloon was developed with a special coating designed to positively influence radar signature. Radar detection can still vary based on radar system parameters, weather, distance, altitude, and dynamics, but in many situations localization using radar search equipment can be significantly improved.

Who Uses the AirMarker R.Four

  • Boaters who want a fast-deploy visual distress signal that stays visible far longer than a flare.
  • Kayakers and canoeists in remote waterways who need a marker that rises above chop and shoreline clutter.
  • Paddleboarders and surfers who want a high-visibility emergency marker in fog, swell, or dusk conditions.
  • Sailors who want an additional visual rescue layer alongside radio, PLB, AIS, or strobe lights.
  • Guide services and tour operators building a stronger safety kit for clients on the water.
  • Search and rescue teams for marking locations, staging areas, or points of interest on the water.

Real Use Scenarios

  • Boat disabled offshore and drifting. Balloon provides a steady visual reference above the waterline.
  • Kayak capsize in wind and chop. Marker helps rescuers pick you out faster than a low-profile light.
  • Fog rolls in and visibility drops. Bright orange balloon adds contrast that helps searchers confirm position.
  • Night drift event after losing daylight. Integrated light supports visibility when strobes alone are not enough.
  • Separated from shore on SUP or small craft. Elevated marker helps nearby boats or aircraft see you sooner.

Common Questions

Q: Is the AirMarker R.Four a one-time-use device?
A: Yes. The R.Four is designed for one-time deployment. After use, customers can return the unit for a special replacement price (where available).

Q: How fast does it deploy?
A: It is designed to deploy in seconds after activation, inflating the balloon and lifting it on the tether line.

Q: How does the light work?
A: The LED requires a one-time activation using the on/off switch. After that, it automatically switches on in low light and off in brighter conditions (light duration about 22 hours).

Q: Is this a replacement for a flare?
A: Think of it as a flare alternative for long-duration visibility. Flares are short and intense. The R.Four is designed to remain visible for much longer and mark your location continuously.

Q: Will radar always detect it?
A: The balloon coating is designed to positively influence radar signature, but detection depends on radar system parameters, weather, distance, altitude, and dynamics. No guarantee can be made for reliable radar detection in every situation.

A Smart Flare Alternative for On-Water Emergencies

Most people searching for safety gear are not typing "AirMarker" yet. They are searching for things like boat distress signal, marine emergency signal, visual distress signal, man overboard marker, kayak safety signal, paddleboard emergency kit, flare alternative, or emergency rescue beacon.

The AirMarker R.Four fits that need as a long-duration, high-visibility marker. Flares burn out. Handheld lights get hidden by waves. Radios and satellite devices can send coordinates, but they do not always provide a clear visual reference. The R.Four gives rescuers something they can actually see above the waterline, and it can remain visible for up to three days depending on conditions.
