The Switlik OPR Offshore Passage Raft with TSD offers the ultimate stability and safety for offshore and coastal marine emergencies. Equipped with the Toroidal Stability Device (TSD), this raft delivers unmatched performance by providing superior resistance to capsizing in rough seas. Designed for serious offshore cruisers, sport fishermen, and sailors, the OPR combines lightweight construction, a convertible canopy system, and heat-sealed durability to ensure reliability in critical situations.
With 1,350 lbs of buoyancy, 24 sq. ft. of floor space, and the advanced TSD wraparound stability system included, this raft is a trusted choice for those who demand the highest level of marine safety. Compact enough for storage on any vessel, the OPR is perfect for boats of all sizes and is vacuum-sealed for long-term readiness.
The OPR Life Raft with TSD includes all the necessary tools for survival during marine emergencies:
Q: What makes the Toroidal Stability Device (TSD) superior to traditional ballast bags?A: The TSD is a full wraparound stability system that outperforms traditional ballast bags by reducing movement, keeping the raft upright, and providing superior stability in rough seas and during helicopter rescues.
Q: How does the convertible canopy system work?A: The canopy provides full protection from the elements while allowing ventilation. Reflective patches ensure 360° visibility for search and rescue teams.
Q: Is the raft easy to store on smaller boats?A: Yes, the OPR is available in compact soft valise or poly container options, making it suitable for vessels of all sizes.
Q: What is the service interval for the OPR with TSD?A: The OPR features a 5-year service interval, thanks to hermetically sealed packaging that protects the raft’s materials and reduces maintenance costs.
Capacity
There is no one universal method of rating raft capacities (see here). In fact, there are several different methods and governmental agencies worldwide that rate the capacity of a life raft based on the following criteria: usable floor area, inflated buoyancy, size of an average individual, and their concept of how long someone might be in the raft before rescue, not to mention how you find yourself to be there, i.e. from a sinking vessel or a ditched aircraft.
As a result, SWITLIK takes the position that a life raft's capacity is truly defined by its total size in floor area and inflated buoyancy. How many "people" that translates into depends upon your usage and interpretation of the above criteria. A raft that might safely support 6 or 8 people in an emergency for 24 hours will seem a lot smaller for a transoceanic passage where rescue might be weeks in coming.
